Tobirama demonstrates his genjutsu art slowly. If the counterpart has so much trouble with genjutsu, why was he able to use Tobirama’s genjutsu previously, the art based on Runa’s dreams? Is this another matter of reflex?
Secondary hypothesis: there is a space aspect to the secondary coils, since they are able to instantaneously pull from any other point in the counterpart’s body. Preliminary hypothesis: the counterpart only needs to learn to feel the pull of the secondary coils and train himself out of using it on reflex. He runs through the rest of the exercises with results that feel successful. Tobirama considers this, then directly moulds the counterpart’s chakra into a candle flame genjutsu and stringently guides it away from the secondary coils’ pull.
The problem is that his control relaxes at the moment of conversion. Tobirama casts the same genjutsu again, this time alert for the secondary coils’ intrusion, and manages to divert the chakra flow momentarily before the secondary coils can assert themselves. More strangely, he felt the alien touch of the secondary coils in the hands pulling his chakra away, even though by all his senses the coils remain unmoving by the eyes. It feels strange, like a reflex activating on its own. For the first time, there is a slight delay in the genjutsu’s casting, as the secondary coils siphon the converted chakra for its own use.
To release Tobirama’s genjutsu, the chakra bond first converts Tobirama’s chakra to the counterpart’s. He moulds his own chakra into a genjutsu of a candle flame, to be released from the hands, and observes. Tobirama repeats the counterpart’s exercises. How is the data traveling to the eyes instantaneously? However, no matter where the counterpart casts from, there is no delay between his attempt to release the genjutsu and the secondary coils casting it. Each time, the genjutsu is moulded perfectly until the moment of release, at which point the secondary coils activate.Īt first, he thinks that the information carried in the genjutsu must be transmitted to the secondary coils through the yin chakra, at which point the secondary coils duplicate the counterpart’s original genjutsu and casts it from the eyes. Because their chakra is linked and their yin chakra can brush up against each other, Tobirama receives impressions of his attempted genjutsu: a candle flame held above the hands, the sound of fire, the smell of burning wood, a fishy aftertaste in the mouth, a clone. Tobirama lets his head fall into his hand. He finishes up his current diagram before extending a probe into the counterpart’s halo of chakra. They are entirely too comfortable with contacting Tobirama like this. To be specific, he feels the hazy lava-heat of his associate’s chakra brush up against him through the bond. Tobirama is working in his laboratory after dinner when he hears from the counterpart next.
